We've all come across them at one time or another. You have just arrived somewhere new, you have no idea where to stay and it's getting late. All of a sudden you are 'best friends' with a local who wants to take you to his friend's guesthouse etc. etc... 

In most cases these are genuine offers as touts fight for travellers to stay at their hotels but be careful that there is not an ulterior motive behind the sudden befriending. Keep alert and do not rush into anything and if, when you get there, you do not feel comfortable or safe make your polite excuses and move on - alone.
