If you are travelling on your own you should stay fairly alert and also wary of anybody becoming too friendly in case they are lulling you into a false sense of security. You will hear far too many stories on your travels of people being ripped off or drugged when travelling - don't be one of them! You not only have to look after yourself but look after you bag as well! See the scams section for further details. Be careful when waiting to get on buses or coaches as bus stations tend to be located in the seedier ends of town and can be a great place for thieves to practice they skills. Also be aware if travelling alone if getting into taxis or tuk-tuks etc. Make sure you know where you are going and speak up of you think you are being taken the wrong way. Also, if you are travelling with your bag only pay the driver when you have the bag back. The bottom line is just stay alert and do not look like a target ....and enjoy!
