Main travellers routes

  • Cape Town and the Garden Route make up a large portion of visits to South Africa. As it provides such a wealth of options, you can spend anything from a week to a month exploring this popular area.
  • Many opt to fly into Johannesburg, hire a car and drive to the Kruger National Park for a safari. This route also takes in the Blyde River Canyon (the world's third largest), and can be extended to include Swaziland, the beaches of the east coast, and the Drakensberg Mountains.
  • For travellers who cannot afford to rent a vehicle, or simply prefer a more lively way of getting from place to place, the Bazbus provides an excellent alternative. Running from Cape Town to Johannesburg via all the important spots, it's a cheap and cheerful way to see the country on a hop-on, hop-off basis.
